Dear Associates:
A "guardian ad litem" is appointed by the court to represent and protect the interests of a child or incapacitated person in pending litigation. The powers and duties of the appointed guardian are limited to the litigation itself, and do not extend to conducting the affairs of the ward unless specifically stated in an order of the court that appointed the "guardian ad litem".
