- Forged Assignments
We have received information that assignments are being forged to assign mortgages to non-institutional investors. The forgers are using the same signatories as are on legitimate documents. Please be cautious when making payments to unfamiliar or non-institutional lenders that acquired a mortgage by a recently recorded assignment.
If you do not recognize the assignee or the assignee is an individual or other private investor that recorded its assignment within 90 days of your transaction, please contact the prior holder of record to confirm the authenticity of the assignment. If necessary, contact the homeowner and request copies of their recent mortgage statements or other contact information for the prior servicer, including account numbers.
